I found the ...Thanks, the pictures really do help. I found the written instructions a little confusing for these 2 reasons (perhaps Jack is having trouble with the 2nd):

1. You don't always specify turning after the long chains (just the first one), but I figured I should stay consistent with the first spiky bit.
2. It's not clear whether the turning chain (ch 1, turn) is supposed to be one of the sc's of its row. (Have you ever used a pattern that worked that way? If not, I don't know how to explain it.) The pics made it clear that it's not supposed to be, but without them, Jack may be skipping the first hdc when sc'ing across, and on his way back not working into the ch, which would leave him without enough room to make 3 hdc's. (Hope that all made sense.)

Anyway, thanks again.Heather Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11525480527313698739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-353746392948535536.post-35558318395127452352011-11-07T09:54:55.414-08:002011-11-07T09:54:55.414-08:00This is a GREAT tutorial!! thanks very much, it he...This is a GREAT tutorial!! thanks very much, it helped as it was very difficult finding a good tutorial for wings! I've got one wing done now and despite being a *little* loose and deformed it actually resembles yours :) (I think my yarn is a little bit on the poor side and the colouring doesn't help make it easy). Your Cthulhu is the first amigurumi pattern I've taken on since learning to crochet last week and now that I can actually do the wings he'll soon be finished, yay!!! For this row, "Pic 3: 3 sc on chain (skip chain closest to hook), 3 hdc on the three sc. Ch1, turn.", those last 3hc go on the three sc that are from the previous row.

When you start the Pic. #3 instructions you're hook is at the end of a piece of chain, work 3 sc into the chain (skipping the first chain space), then keep working from right to left (DO NOT TURN) putting the three hdc into the three sc that are to your left (and part of the previous row).

Take a good look at the picture above the Pic. #3 instructions to see where your hook should be at the end of this row. Remember, throughout the tutorial, it's the picture above the text, that is showing what your piece should look like and where your hook should be when you've completed the instructions in that part of text.

Does that make things any clearer? It's hard for me to offer help without seeing your actual piece, but I hope this has clarified things. Let me know, and good luck!amberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03972471077953562082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-353746392948535536.post-78114423906288125022010-02-12T20:01:53.298-08:002010-02-12T20:01:53.298-08:00Everything else in your tutorial has been great, g...Everything else in your tutorial has been great, got my Cthulhu ready for wings but for some reason I just end up with square chunks joined by a small flap in the corners instead of progressively larger pointy bits. it seems to be whatever I'm doing with the hdc's that's stuffing me up because mine looks like your pics until then but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with them. Am I supposed to be turning and doing the hdc's on the sc's I just did on the chain? Am I supposed to be doing the hdc's to connect it to the first flap? Any help would be really appreciated, like I said my cthulhu is complete except it's wings.Ukhsudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11752964437832155122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-353746392948535536.post-40408305207698284952010-01-30T14:42:11.039-08:002010-01-30T14:42:11.039-08:00Jack, are you sure that you have enough chain spac...Jack, are you sure that you have enough chain spaces in your chain before you started single crocheting back across the chain?
